Grasshoppers

chapulines

On our menu since we opened in 2011, our Grasshoppers, known as Chapulines in Mexico and Central America, went viral once we began serving them at Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners, in Spring 2017 at the beginning of the baseball season. In 2016 we began our partnership with Centerplate, the concessionaire for Safeco Field, to bring Poquitos' tacos and margaritas to Edgar's Cantina in the lower level of left field. We agreed that fans would also get a kick out of trying our favorite crunchy snack so we added Chapulines to the menu too. They became an instant hit with visitors intrigued to try a chile-lime toasted grasshopper!

Chapulines are a popular bar snack in Oaxaca, Mexico where they are harvested in the wild each October. If you aren't planning a visit to Oaxaca anytime soon, you can try them at Poquitos in Capitol Hill or at Edgar's Cantina by Poquitos at Safeco Field! We think they go especially well with a Mexican cerveza or scratch margarita!
